KY Tumble Brings Gymnastics and Cheerleading to Owen County
A Lifelong Dream Becomes Reality
Laura (Williams) Porter, a lifelong resident of Owen County, is making a lasting impact on the local cheerleading and gymnastics community. A 2007 graduate of Owen County High School, Laura spent her high school years cheering on the Rebels as a varsity cheerleader while also competing with an all-star cheerleading gym. Her passion for gymnastics and cheerleading never wavered. After graduating from Eastern Kentucky University with a degree in social work, Laura moved out of state for several years. Eventually, she found her way back home to Owen County, where she now resides with her husband, Cory, and their three daughters.
Laura has always been driven to give back to the community that shaped her. She began sharing her skills and enthusiasm as the gymnastics director and instructor for Owen County Parks and Recreation, where she launched the program in 2016. She also served as an assistant coach for the Owen County High School varsity cheerleading squad.
Filling a Longstanding Gap
Reflecting on her experiences, Laura realized that local athletes needed greater access to quality tumbling and cheerleading instruction. "I have a passion for cheerleading and tumbling, and there is nothing close to Owen County that offers this for our youth," she explained. "It's been this way since I was a high school cheerleader. Now that I have children and coach here, I felt passionate about bringing this to our community."
In late 2024, Laura took her vision to the next level by laying the groundwork for a dedicated gymnastics facility in Owen County.
KY Tumble Opens Its Doors
Her dream officially became a reality when KY Tumble, located next to Owen County Fitness, welcomed its first students on Jan. 7, 2025. The new facility offers a wide range of programs, including toddler tumbling, beginner-to-advanced tumbling, open gym sessions, and private lessons. KY Tumble's first session is already making an impressive impact, with 85 students ranging from 3 to 16 years old enrolled in classes.
Laura is excited to see her students grow and develop their skills, knowing that KY Tumble will help inspire the next generation of gymnasts and cheerleaders in Owen County.
A Vision for the Future
With KY Tumble now open, Laura looks forward to expanding opportunities for local youth to explore and excel in tumbling and cheerleading. Her passion and commitment to the community are sure to make a lasting difference, empowering students to reach new heights.
